The stories that surround Michael Jackson’s life have gained much international attention for the last month. Never would one imagine that he would have stolen the hearts of thousands with his music, charm and talent, and would exit this life taking with him the tear drops of millions of people. On June 25, 2009 it was not just Michael Jackson that died, but many people died internally as they saw their music idol laid to rest.
Many criticisms from Anti-Michael activists have made it their obligation to defame, slander and water the image of the King of Pop to another drug addict that went above the law with his money and power. In some popular forums, thousands dish out their hate in three scathing words-’So Long Pedophile’.
It must be pointed out that the intention of this article is not to condone in anyway the questionable conduct of Mr. Jackson, but to point out one thing that was overlooked throughout these years prior to his comeback for an international tour, and that is, his heart.
When asked in an interview with a British journalist who he was, Michael responded that he was Peter Pan. This response caused great alarm worldwide but only a close introspection of his statement would reveal the character of an individual that wanted to see life through the eyes of a child, with no cares, no threats from scrupulous individuals and no hate.
It was obvious that he did not achieve this goal, as his constant use of drugs debilitated his heath and image to many of his fans. When the final day of his life arrived, reports say that the cause of death was a heart attack, but the fact is that with all that he underwent in his life he was already dead internally.
People who turn to drugs are looking for a solution to rekindle the drive they once had for life. With the constant pressures from outsiders and self, they try to find the strength by numbing the pain they feel when they are criticized, anxious and depressed. Only one who has trod the journey that a drug addict has went through would fully understand what they feel when they are tempted to use drugs. While many would happily get on there high horses and swear on their mother’s life that they would never use drugs, these same individuals react differently under pressure and stress. People are the product of their environment and while some manage to rise above it, others are frozen in regrets, sadness and defeat.
It was not just drugs that killed Michael Jackson, but every single individual that hurled their criticisms and pointed their fingers at him in his moment of defeat are responsible to pushing him to his grave. Like the alumni that are under our care at Mountainside Treatment Center, many have been pushed into drugs by the lack of love and compassion to help a weak soul.
If anyone or anything is going to be condemned for his death, let us all point a finger at ourselves, for in some small way many pushed him to use drugs. With just a ‘grain of salt’ of mercy many helped kill Michael Jackson, and not just him but hundreds of stars that we assume are super men and women.
