Drug Abuse and Addiction

Addiction, as it seems to everyone, is a continued and progressive process. It only increases by the day and becomes very hard to revert back. Moreover the causes and effects can be erratic making one feel totally weird. Now the affected person, the addict, is the one who doesn’t quite know what is happening around him and doesn’t seem to be in control of his surroundings and the things happening to him. Now drug addiction is something which makes the addict go to miserable depths of desperation in every aspect of life. The basic reason for the potency of drugs is that they act on the neural system and produce hallucinations. The hallucinations produced are at such a higher degree that no wonder these narcotics are called hallucinogenic drugs.

Talking about drug addiction, though many consider it to be a disease, it can be interpreted as something related to human emotions just like talking and feeling. Thus it can be evaluated by talk-therapy and procedures like that, the only difference being that it infinitely harder compared to any other problem. Identifying the symptoms has been and continues to be the basic step towards the cure of any disorder and this is no different. The symptoms are basically eating disorders characterized by loss of appetite, which explains the lean and weak frame of junkies. Other symptoms are formation of dark circles resulting from insomnia which in itself is a symptom, and other side effects. (more…)

Addiction to a drug or to alcohol is an all-consuming compulsion, one which demands attention, almost to the exclusion of all else. It can be a full-time job for the addict. Getting drugs or alcohol and consuming them, then being stoned or drunk occupies a large portion of their time.

In the case of drugs such as heroin or cocaine, using is definitely a morning to night occupation. The addict will wake up and look to see how much drug there is for that day’s consumption. If the supply is low, the planning of how to get more of the drug takes up the morning’s activities. Faked prescriptions, phone calls to borrow money, scams, and other methods of getting the price of drugs together is always first on the to-do list. (more…)

When Intervention Makes Sense

You’ve been watching your friend or loved one go downhill for years. You’ve talked to them several times and they seemed to deny it every time you talk to them. You worry about them doing real damage to themselves or others, destroying themselves both physically and financially and you’ve reached the point where something must be done. This is when intervention makes sense.

Intervention is where the addicts friends and loved ones meet with the addict in a private setting and address the problem. The thing that makes these drugs so dangerous as opposed to cocaine or heroine is the fact that these drugs are prescribed by a doctor. Now don’t make the mistake and point the finger at the doctor as many of these drugs are medical miracles and truly do help people cope with chronic pain and other ailments. Why Drug Abuse Intervention Can Save Someone’s Life

Published: Aug 14th, 2009 | Author: morgan Add Comment

There are several different reasons why a drug abuse intervention will save someone’s life, and there should be no hesitation when it comes to whether or not to use an intervention to help someone.

Saves a Life With Drug Abuse Intervention

It is possible for an addict to be physically injured or even killed while trying to purchase their drugs, depending on where that is. The same danger exists for the people around the addict as well. The addict may think that the dealer is their friend, but the criminals that deal drugs are, in no way, a friend to anyone. In that situation, the addict is playing Russian Roulette with their life, even though they may not realize or acknowledge it. The user thinks the drug dealer is a friend. When trouble comes, that “friend” can turn ugly very fast.

Stop The Possibility of Legal Distress or a Police Record

If the addict is ever caught using or carrying anything that suggests use, severe legal trouble and a record will happen. The legal issues will cost money many addicts and their families do not have. On top of the fact the addict may serve prison time, the charges will follow them for the rest of their lives, making it difficult to get a job or even rent a place to live. If prison time has to be served, it can be a traumatic experience and difficult to readjust to society afterward.

Can You Drug Detox at Home?

Published: Jun 3rd, 2009 | Author: morgan Add Comment

Okay, the question is, can you Drug Detox At Home? You need to ask yourself some things first.

What kind of drugs have you been taking? For instance, if you have been smoking marijuana, unless you are a very extreme case, you can and probably should detox at home. Although still give your doctor a quick visit just to be on the safe side. If on the other hand you are a heroin addict, I would suggest that you think very carefully before attempting to do this on your own.

Some people will want to do this at home. While this will not be easy, it is possible. After all, you were the one that has to give. You must have good strength of mind. You are the only one who can make it happen.

The first thing you must know is that you are more than likely in for a period of withdrawal. This is going to be physical. So you want to make sure that you’re comfortable. Have plenty of water and food in the house so you don’t have to do venture outside. You will need enough of everything for about a week, unless you have someone to take care of you.
