There are several different reasons why a drug abuse intervention will save someone’s life, and there should be no hesitation when it comes to whether or not to use an intervention to help someone.

Saves a Life With Drug Abuse Intervention

It is possible for an addict to be physically injured or even killed while trying to purchase their drugs, depending on where that is. The same danger exists for the people around the addict as well. The addict may think that the dealer is their friend, but the criminals that deal drugs are, in no way, a friend to anyone. In that situation, the addict is playing Russian Roulette with their life, even though they may not realize or acknowledge it. The user thinks the drug dealer is a friend. When trouble comes, that “friend” can turn ugly very fast.

Stop The Possibility of Legal Distress or a Police Record

If the addict is ever caught using or carrying anything that suggests use, severe legal trouble and a record will happen. The legal issues will cost money many addicts and their families do not have. On top of the fact the addict may serve prison time, the charges will follow them for the rest of their lives, making it difficult to get a job or even rent a place to live. If prison time has to be served, it can be a traumatic experience and difficult to readjust to society afterward.

You Will Be Healthier

If the addict doesn’t get killed trying to “score,” there’s a high chance of death based on the damage being done to the body as a result of the drug use. If a person stops using drugs, he or she will see significant changes in their health and physical ability over time. For instance, the person will be able to do more without feeling as tired, experience increased memory retention, and depending on the drug used, likely be able to breathe easier.

Enhance the Quality of Life

When a user quits using the drugs, he/she is reminded of life’s better things. Focus on things like starting school, getting a job or rebuilding relationships with those that they hurt, emotionally and possibly physically, will be much easier and more rewarding. The time, money and energy that used to be spent in search of drugs can now be better used. Addicts who have recovered successfully will gain self esteem from sharing their experiences other addicts and help them to recover as well.

If you are in need of a drug abuse intervention yourself or if you are considering a drug abuse intervention for someone close to you, it is imperative that you move as quick as possible. Considering the benefits, what reason could you have to avoid it?

Let Brian Garvin & Jeff West give you a closer look at Substance Abuse Intervention and find out the benefits of Drug Intervention for you or someone you care about with a Substance Abuse Problem.

Addiction, as it seems to everyone, is a continued and progressive process. It only increases by the day and becomes very hard to revert back. Moreover the causes and effects can be erratic making one feel totally weird. Now the affected person, the addict, is the one who doesn’t quite know what is happening around him and doesn’t seem to be in control of his surroundings and the things happening to him. Now drug addiction is something which makes the addict go to miserable depths of desperation in every aspect of life. The basic reason for the potency of drugs is that they act on the neural system and produce hallucinations. The hallucinations produced are at such a higher degree that no wonder these narcotics are called hallucinogenic drugs.

Talking about drug addiction, though many consider it to be a disease, it can be interpreted as something related to human emotions just like talking and feeling. Thus it can be evaluated by talk-therapy and procedures like that, the only difference being that it infinitely harder compared to any other problem. Identifying the symptoms has been and continues to be the basic step towards the cure of any disorder and this is no different. The symptoms are basically eating disorders characterized by loss of appetite, which explains the lean and weak frame of junkies. Other symptoms are formation of dark circles resulting from insomnia which in itself is a symptom, and other side effects.

The craving for narcotics characterized by maddening abdominal pain can also be considered as a symptom, if it can be. What started as a simple experimentation with drugs out of curiosity can lead to the demons of addiction, something on the lines of the short story ‘Curiosity Killed My Crow’. There are many myths regarding drug use and addiction. And the existence of these myths itself is a reflection of the naivete of the once-normal-now-addicts.
Quitting can be the biggest one can imagine as the conception among people that only those who got a strong will power succeed in breaking the shackles, is one to get shattered. The reason being that prolonged usage of drugs usually results in changes in the functioning of the brain in such a way, that the thought of controlling the craving is ephemeral. Now the above reason should not be a heart-breaking one as changes in functioning of brain doesn’t mean that it cannot be reverted back to normal, there are lot of treatments and therapies which precisely work on it. Better late than never, to start a rehabilitation program, as one doesn’t have to wait until he/she hits the depth, when they are basically helpless. Effects of drug abuse on the other hand vary from one drug of abuse to other, but the most common trait observed is that the functions of brain like self-control, motivation, memory, emotional regulation and judgment get jeopardized. These effects of drug abuse are enough to consider it as a serious problem, but the decision to quit or get treatment should solely belong to the one who is addict rather than pushing rehabilitation onto them.

Addiction to a drug or to alcohol is an all-consuming compulsion, one which demands attention, almost to the exclusion of all else. It can be a full-time job for the addict. Getting drugs or alcohol and consuming them, then being stoned or drunk occupies a large portion of their time.

In the case of drugs such as heroin or cocaine, using is definitely a morning to night occupation. The addict will wake up and look to see how much drug there is for that day’s consumption. If the supply is low, the planning of how to get more of the drug takes up the morning’s activities. Faked prescriptions, phone calls to borrow money, scams, and other methods of getting the price of drugs together is always first on the to-do list.

A professional, a regular father or mother with an addiction to prescription drugs must spend huge amounts of time and energy getting, using, and then hiding their activities.

Removing drug addiction from your life has the magnificent benefit returning all that attention and time. Freeing up the actions and the communication feels wonderful. All the feelings of guilt and shame begin to heal and the future is wide open.

Strategy 2

Get busy and use that new free time!

The first few months off of drugs is a very delicate period for anyone. The urges can come often and sometimes hard. Thoughts of using will be occurring at the most inopportune times.

What’s the old expression? “An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.” Free time is NOT a good thing right now.

A new project, a hobby or plunging into work with a vengeance can make this period go by faster and much easier. Everyday you stay off drugs brings you closer to the time when your addiction is just a memory.

You might not feel like doing anything at all, but you need to pour the effort into it and get your but up and make something happen. Being drug-free is great, even if it doesn’t feel so great yet. But it isn’t worth much if you don’t actually go out and accomplish something, something that you can be proud of. A little overwork could be a good thing to take your mind off drugs.

The pull of addiction will be much less if your attention is fully outward and you are focused on something that you are doing that is worthwhile. Remember, you have a life to rebuild and you can’t rebuild it when you’re sitting around, trying to resist. You are actually intensifying the urges by wallowing in your cravings. The sooner you let those go, the sooner they will begin to let up.

Keep your attention outward and forward. More on that in the next article:

You’ve been watching your friend or loved one go downhill for years. You’ve talked to them several times and they seemed to deny it every time you talk to them. You worry about them doing real damage to themselves or others, destroying themselves both physically and financially and you’ve reached the point where something must be done. This is when intervention makes sense.

Intervention is where the addicts friends and loved ones meet with the addict in a private setting and address the problem. The goal of the intervention is to make the addict agree in accept that they have a problem and give them options to correct it. An ultimatum is normally a big part of the intervention as it forces the addict to choose between his friends and family or his addiction.

There are a lot of problems that can go wrong with an intervention. The addict may still be in denial and may be quite hostile to being confronted by his friends and family over a problem he doesn’t believe he has. An addict, while being confronted, may lash out and use his personal knowledge of his friends and coworkers. The addict will take steps to change the subject and to end the conversation as quickly as possible.

“How dare you accuse me of having a drinking problem, you were out drinking at the bar just last Saturday’”

Many times the best solution is to bring in someone who is fully trained in doing interventions. A certified interventionist will have dealt with countless addicts and will be prepared to deal with all of the denial and psychological games that an addict will attempt. No matter how well intentioned, a certified interventionists will have a much higher success rate dealing with addicts than an untrained family member or friend.

Once the intervention is complete and the addict has decided that they need treatment they need to be immediately transported to a treatment center that has been chosen for them. This is also something that a certified interventionists can help you with. Waiting more than even a couple of days before giving the attic into treatment will give them an opportunity to change their mind. You want to have the treatment center picked out an appointment made before you do the intervention.

Most of the people drink alcohol, which is even legal. But there are many amongst the people, who are never satisfied with alcohol, and so they start doing drugs. Drugs are harmful to the body is a fact ignored and instead the fact accepted amongst the drug addicts is that it gives you unstoppable energy for some time. In short, they like to live in the moment by taking drugs rather than think of their future by not taking drugs. But, the consequences of their drug consumption is not just limited to them, it also directly influences the society they live in and all the people they come in contact with directly or indirectly.

Their behavior can be irrational and unethical at many times, and if not monitored or controlled, it can lead to unexpected and grave consequences for others as well. For this reason alone, many companies these days are following a strict regime and regular check-ups of alcohol drug testing, followed by workshops and training, as well as helpful rehabilitation sessions. This is because, one or two alcoholics or drug addicts can spoil the whole working environment and even tend to corrupt others, leave alone disturbing them! And this can completely hamper the future growth of the company involved.

These drug testing alcohol may or may not be outsourced. Many large conglomerates, organizations etc. have their in house drug testing or the dope testing departments which are strictly prohibited areas and are kept under high surveillance levels ensuring that no information is leaked or used against the company. This also ensures is personalized tests and better privacy. This is especially true for sports organizations and events such as the Olympics, Common Wealth Games, and Cricket World Cups and so on. This is also due to the federal laws and public involved heavily in these kinds of organizations.

But many companies get these tests outsourced as well. And it is a great idea because these companies can then use specialized professional help which already has experience and has dealth with a number of cases. This way, the company benefits in utilizing its time for other causes, while leaving these internal causes to a specialized agency which would carry out the tests and file reports and conduct training sessions in a systematic way.

This practice must indeed be incorporated by as many organizations as possible!

The thing that makes these drugs so dangerous as opposed to cocaine or heroine is the fact that these drugs are prescribed by a doctor. Now don’t make the mistake and point the finger at the doctor as many of these drugs are medical miracles and truly do help people cope with chronic pain and other ailments. The problem is that the nature of these drugs are very addictive in nature and without proper monitoring of ones self you can change from becoming dependent on the drugs to being completely addicted to them.

Addiction is easy because the doctor may raise your dosage to help you cope with your illness. Well if you raise the dosage you will feel greater withdrawal symptoms in between dosages and end up taking pills in between dosage times just to cope. These extra dosages grow and grow until you have to be on these pills all the time. Well at this point your body builds up a tolerance to the drug and you start taking more.

At this time you are becoming addicted. Addicts will do anything they have to in order to get more pills to break the tolerance point to help them feel better. The sad thing is that people that would never act a certain way act in crazy ways when they are completely addicted to the prescription drugs. Some addicts get friends and family to get pills for them, they forge prescription slips and all kinds of other things to get a hold of the drug they feel will make them feel better.

Alcoholism is a common malady of our times. Many precious lives are wasted because of this. It all starts for fun and in no time the person becomes an addict. But there is no need to lose hope. Alcohol rehabilitation centres are around in the form of saviours.

Alcohol rehabilitation centres are doing a great service to mankind by bringing down the number of alcoholics around us. These centres work like health resorts providing a serene environment for the victims of alcohol. Calming down the nerves of an addict is not that easy. But the support and co operation provided by the expert staff of the rehabilitation centre can definitely bring back the addict to normalcy. Here the presence of the family as a pillar of strength for the addict cannot be forgotten.

The treatment process is no longer painful for the addict. Group interactions, leisure activities etc make it enjoyable. Initially problems can be there due to withdrawal symptoms. The body and mind of the addict may react adversely when the daily dose is cut off. But the experienced staff of the centres can handle this matter with out much difficulty.

Many stages are involved in alcohol rehabilitation. First of all, the body is made to cope up with the non-availability of intoxicants. Secondly, the body is made to get rid of all the harmful toxins. Confidence building techniques are also adopted in this stage. The third step consists of engaging in house hold chores to see whether the individual can withstand stress. Follow up process undertaken by the centre makes sure that the victim does not fall into the wrong hands, once let out of the rehabilitation centre.
