If you or someone you care about is suffering from drug addiction or alcoholism, the last thing you want to be thinking about is how you’ll pay for treatment. But while this might be a valid concern, it shouldn’t be one that stops you from reaching out for help. There are a number of different ways to pay for addiction treatment or alcohol rehab- even if you don’t have any insurance. In fact, the people who can help you make all necessary payment arrangements are the same ones that you’ll talk to when you call for a confidential consultation at a treatment center. Knowing what to expect before you make that call might help make the process go more smoothly.
Most people pay for rehab with some type of insurance. However, this doesn’t always have to be an independent policy that you pay for yourself. It could include employer-sponsored insurance, armed forces insurance, state-funded insurance programs for the underprivileged or disadvantaged, and even as part of riders for some types of life insurance and other products. Each provider is unique, so it’s important to understand exactly what your policy covers and what it doesn’t. But if you need help figuring it all out, you should simply call a treatment center and they can properly advise you of what your coverage includes. To first understand opioid addiction, you must first understand what opioids are. The term opioid refers to any drug or chemical that attaches (like a key fits into a lock) to sites in the brain called opioid receptors. The human body makes its own opioids (called endorphins) but the opioids we are concerned with when we talk about opioid addiction are those that are manufactured in a laboratory or made by plants. For instance, morphine and codeine are found in the extract (the opium) of seeds from the poppy plant, and this opium is processed into heroin. Most prescription painkillers like oxycodone, hydrocodone, and hydromorphone are synthesized in the laboratory. When a person becomes dependent upon these drugs, they need opioid addiction treatment.
What are Common Types of Opioids?
Opioids may be prescribed legally by doctors (for pain, cough suppression or opioid dependence) or they may be taken illegally for their mood-altering effects–euphoria, sedation, “to feel better”, or for some, opioids are taken “just to feel normal”. Not everyone who takes an opioid is at risk for dependence requiring opioid addiction treatment, but these drugs are commonly abused. Continue reading ‘What is Opioid Addiction?’ »

There is an addiction treatment which helps individuals recover from their addiction and lead a normal life. This condition not only affects the individuals but also has an adverse impact on their families, relatives, and friends. So, choosing the right rehab center for the effected person is essential at the right time.
The recovery time in drug rehabilitation varies from one person to another. Many also require more than one kind of treatment in order to recover completely from their addiction. The success of the treatment at a rehab center also depends on the cooperation of the individual and the support of their families. It should also be kept in mind that drug addiction is a chronic disorder which can also relapse due to which taking treatment just once may not be sufficient. So, it usually involves treatment for a longer duration as well as few intermittent treatments according to their effect and response of an individual. An addiction can be a powerful illness that takes over a person’s mind, body and spirit. The process of recovery is one that takes time and effort beginning with a period of detox followed by rehabilitation and ending with independent sobriety. Addiction treatment can come in many different forms but the most common of these are 12 step support groups which can be educational and healing. These types of programs have been beneficial to people suffering from addiction for decades and have proven to be effective for a wide variety of individuals.
There are a few different philosophies involved in an addiction treatment support group. One aspect of these programs that is often thought of as the first step is admitting that you have a problem and have no control over your addiction. The reason this step is so important is that denial can be very strong and the desire to remain in control is persistent. People in these groups must admit they have lost control and identify themselves as addicts. What follows then is leaving this sense of weakness up to a higher power that they believe can provide strength. Continue reading ‘Important Steps in Addiction Recovery’ »

It may sound quite strange but there are certain issues that are proving to be a stumbling block to the addiction treatment in Kentucky, which originate in the family of the patient itself. This is strange because the family, which is supposed to be the major pillar of support for the addiction treatment of the person, can sometimes prove to be a huge liability and pose difficulties in the treatment process. Here we take a look at some of these family-related problems that can make addiction treatment in Kentucky tough.
Ignorance
Most families in Kentucky are still quite ignorant of what an addiction is and even if they know, there is always the tendency to think that things like addictions always happen to other people. This complacency, however, is posing an important threat to addiction recovery in Kentucky.
Right from the school level to the workplace level, there are centers that provide education to families on how they must understand the signs and symptoms of an addiction and seek proper remedies at the right time. In schools, whenever a student is suspected to be in an addiction by the teachers or school substance counselors, the parents are immediately intimated of it and they are also explained what options for treatment can be used. The same is used when people in the workplace are found to be with addictions. However, such treatment processes are rarely initiated by the families themselves.
