If you know someone who is an addicted to drugs, and just goes on drinking binges until they drink themselves into oblivion, and after they’re in a drunken stupor want to exacerbate their drunkenness with marijuana or other hard drugs, it’s time for them to get help. But please remember that 90 percent of the time they will deny they have a problem. They will do whatever it takes to remain in their drug or alcohol induced stupor. This is their comfort zone.

So what you need to do as someone responsible for this person is take action as soon as possible. A great place to start would be Alanon. It’s an awesome program that works with AA or Alcoholics Anonymous. They will tech you what you need to learn to not only get sober, but to stay sober and how to deal with the issues that got you starting to drink in the first place.

Unfortunately you alone can’t make anyone better. Rehabilitation is something people have to do for themselves. But if they get to an Alanon meeting they will soon realize they are not alone, and the support there is like no other place for people suffering from Drinking Problems.

In addition to realizing that you can only help yourself, think of the serenity prayer. Also learn to love yourself for who you are. If you can do this, and truly change your thinking, you can learn to live with someone no matter how messed up they are, and hopefully change them along the way.

But I also realize everyone has a breaking point. You also have a life and if they are interfering with your quality of life and things are to the point where you don’t feel they are respecting you as a person, then it may be time for an Alcohol Intervention for them.

You should be able to find Alanon and Alcoholics Anonymous in the phone book and online.

Let Brian Garvin and Jeff West teach you about Drugs Intervention and Substance Abuse Intervention at our Substance Abuse Prevention Website.

It is incredibly important for everyone to recognize the effects of drinking alcohol. Whether you’re not drinking, a beginner or an addicted drinker, all and sundry should know the result of taking booze. I assume the difficulty with alcohol addicts is that they are uninformed of the final result of their conduct. They were mistakenly made to suppose that alcohol will do them good. They were told that it will make them put aside their setback. In brief, all they were told were lies which they also accepted. They were never told of the incapacitating outcome of taking alcohol. The image given to them was that of having rapture on the universe. This piece of writing is written for every person to be acquainted with the deplorable ending of alcohol addiction, not only to the alcoholics but also to the family unit and employment of the person drinking.

One of the several depressing end result of drinking alcohol is that it affects your brain or that of an addict. It is better not to take alcohol than to take it and try to control the ending. When taken, your point of view and selection is affected negatively. In other language, you can’t meditate usefully. You see things from the incorrect standpoint. It only becomes clearer to you or the addict after everything has died down. Your brain that is needed for maximum lifestyle in your job and family unit and in association with your friends and family members is adversely affected and you begin to think unreasonably. To you or an addict, every person is immoral and you are the right human being.

Not lots of folks are in the know of the weakening upshots of drinking alcohol on their everyday life. Alcohol is answerable for mental and moral changes in the person indulging in it. Unknown to countless persons drinking it, it opens the door for all forms of bananas and unintelligent spirits. Thence, it makes individuals, who are morally right and upright when they are not inebriated, to behave badly and behave unusually when they take either a little or much of it. These knotted behaviors repeatedly astound and shame the people that did it. They feel that they are not the one that did it but when shown the confirmation, they felt remorseful for their action and agree never to indulge in it again. But that obligation only last for a small number of minutes or hours.

The two effects of drinking alcohol spoke in this commentary are not exhaustive. We are yet to lay a hand on on how it has an effect on the relatives and how it is answerable for the various examples of estrangement we have in our community today. I will comment upon this in another expose for that purpose. Yet it suffice to you my dear reader to know that alcohol does more destruction to you and individuals around you than good. Therefore, the best thing you can do for yourself, your heath, your relatives and profession is keep away from all appearances of alcoholic drinks.

The need for you or a loved one grappling with alcohol addiction to register for alcohol rehab treatment cannot be overstated. One thing I found out with many alcoholics is that they want help. To put in another way, they want to throw in the towel but are powerless to. They’ve promised themselves and loved ones that they will quit but their pledge only last for a few minutes or hours. They always go back on on their promises and New Year’s resolutions. Hence, the most excellent way to get these individuals off alcohol is to go to a good and dependable rehab.

Even though there are a lot of alcohol rehabs out there, you are informed to be very wary as not all of them are good for you. It is certainly necessary for you to frequently look before you leap. You must make sure that the center has assisted many persons like you and they have good status. Additionally, it is critical that you check if the center is well equipped with both the human and material resources.

The good news is that alcohol rehab treatment will help you know how to react to alcohol. You will be aided in the rehab to throw in the towel. But, it must be stressed that giving up is a personal decision. In other words, no rehab center in the whole globe can get you off if you don’t want to. Hence, you need to show them at the center that you’re disposed by obeying the orders you’re given. It sometimes beat my imagination when I read on the web that some alcoholics smuggle in intoxicating drinks in a rehab. I believe these are unserious folks. Why attend a rehab in the first place?

You or a loved one require alcohol rehab treatment if you or the loved one have been incapable to defeat the difficulty of addiction. It is true that some human beings may find it hard throwing in the towel. Therefore, it s suggested that you get help from experts in the centers out there.

While some alcohol rehab centers are quite pricey, there are several others out there that are affordable. I encourage you to keep looking till you get one of these. However, it is not good to forfeit quality for cost. Make sure that the center has quality treatment for human beings like you irrespective of the cost. You will not shirk from paying if you’re truly tired of your way of life. If you keep in mind the negative consequence of alcohol on your life, business and relations, you will not be perturbed by the amount. This is the only manner to recover your life.

Inpatient alcohol rehab is for severe alcoholics who for a multitude of reasons cannot abstain from drinking. It is usually only severe alcoholics who will sign themselves in for inpatient alcohol rehab. In some cases the alcoholic will have no choice because they may have been ordered to take inpatient alcohol rehab by a court of law or they may have been taken into an alcohol rehabilitation program because they have become ill from the effects of alcohol abuse.

The first part of any alcohol rehabilitation treatment is alcohol detoxification. Alcohol detoxification is the process of removing all of the toxins that have been built up in the body by alcohol abuse. These toxins are responsible for the cravings that alcoholic will get when he has not had a drink. Alcohol detoxification is a controlled way of enabling the patient to deal with the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal.

The next part of the alcohol rehabilitation is trying to discover why the patient is addicted to alcohol. There will be daily therapy sessions in which the alcoholic will try to understand the fundamental causes behind their addiction and the patient will also be helped to develop a plan of action which they will carry forward once they leave the inpatient alcohol rehab program. It is important that the patient stays in the program for as long as possible. This is because the patient will have far better chance of successful alcohol rehab if they have spent a long enough time in therapy. Of course inpatient alcohol rehab is only the beginning. Once the patient leaves the program they should begin to get help on the outside to deal with any problems that might arise.

Inpatient alcohol rehab is the first step on your road to recovery. The road to recovery could take the rest of your life. You may never be able to take an alcoholic drink again but life does not stop because of this. Once you have finished with your inpatient alcohol rehab you will follow a course of outpatient alcohol rehab which will last for a relatively longer period time. For more information about either of these processes please click on the highlighted text above.

Any kind of addiction can be difficult to overcome. However, overcoming alcoholic addiction is the most difficult task, which an individual may face. During the treatment like detoxification, the patients really feel very uneasy especially in the case of long time alcoholics.

Therefore, getting the services of Alcohol Detox center can always be beneficial for you. Based on the needs of the addict, the family of the addict can always help to locate an excellent detox clinic. Escaping from the dependency on alcohol becomes very easier after getting the help of alcohol detox clinic.

You can locate a good local alcohol detox clinic online. All you need to do is to find the list of all alcohol detox clinics. For finding the good clinic from the list, you may need to evaluate their rehabilitation programs. An excellent rehabilitation program starts with the detoxification process.

After this process, the treatment is conducted, which include different stages of prevention, patient therapy, medication, nutrition counseling, and family therapy. At every step of the treatment, special guidance and support is provided to the patient.

After evaluating the treatment process of the alcohol-detox centre, you should consider the following factors in choosing the centre. There will be many rehab centres in your locality and all of them will have different specialties. Before choosing the rehab centre, you should consider their specialty first. The detox clinic, which specialises in alcohol-detox, can always be most suitable for you. Moreover, in the specialised clinics, latest equipments and best services are available.

After considering the specialisation of centres, you should consider the location of the rehab. A local rehab is a better option as compared to other centres in the city because the access of the family members will also become easier. Furthermore, a nearby alcohol-detox clinic may also allow the family to visit. Checking the convenience and comfort of addict is also important while selecting the inpatient and outpatient programs.

Family of addict usually does not consider the personalities and skills of staff members of alcohol-detox clinics. This is very important to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. It has been found by various researches that warm and genuine support can reduce the recovery period of the patient. Therefore, you should conduct an interview with the staff of an Alcohol Detox centre before, choosing the centre.

You should also take the knowledge of all available methods of alcohol detoxification program of the centres. Some rehab centres only offer one program therefore, a centre, which offers various programs may provide you many options to select from them. The atmosphere provided to the patient is also very important while selecting the rehabilitation centre. If the alcohol-detox clinic treats the patient in complete isolation, then recovery of the patient becomes quicker. Some clinics provide full residential facilities to the patients.

In conclusion, selection of the appropriate alcohol detox clinics can directly affect the treatment of the addict. Therefore, this decision should be very wise and careful.

Alcoholism is a common malady of our times. Many precious lives are wasted because of this. It all starts for fun and in no time the person becomes an addict. But there is no need to lose hope. Alcohol rehabilitation centres are around in the form of saviours.

Alcohol rehabilitation centres are doing a great service to mankind by bringing down the number of alcoholics around us. These centres work like health resorts providing a serene environment for the victims of alcohol. Calming down the nerves of an addict is not that easy. But the support and co operation provided by the expert staff of the rehabilitation centre can definitely bring back the addict to normalcy. Here the presence of the family as a pillar of strength for the addict cannot be forgotten.

The treatment process is no longer painful for the addict. Group interactions, leisure activities etc make it enjoyable. Initially problems can be there due to withdrawal symptoms. The body and mind of the addict may react adversely when the daily dose is cut off. But the experienced staff of the centres can handle this matter with out much difficulty.

Many stages are involved in alcohol rehabilitation. First of all, the body is made to cope up with the non-availability of intoxicants. Secondly, the body is made to get rid of all the harmful toxins. Confidence building techniques are also adopted in this stage. The third step consists of engaging in house hold chores to see whether the individual can withstand stress. Follow up process undertaken by the centre makes sure that the victim does not fall into the wrong hands, once let out of the rehabilitation centre.

Alternatives to Alcoholics Anonymous, 12-Step Programs Specified in First-Ever Wide-ranging Resource Guide; Finally Proper Help for Alcoholism and Drug Addiction.”AA scarcely seems like a ’successful method,” proclaims Melanie Solomon, author of a recent book expressing alternatives to AA for the treatment of alcoholic and drug abuse. “In reality, it doesn’t deliver the results for many men and women.”

A recovered pill medication abuser who experienced AA morally defeating, Solomon wrote her newly available 2nd Edition of “AA Not the Only Way,” to shed light on complementary ways and treatment programs that do the job as well or a lot better than AA to obtain help for alcoholism and drug addictiton.

Solomon is instant to offer acknowledgment for that incredible contribution AA has made to people it’s aided but indicates the statistics are simply just too overpowering not to ever learn other methods for people not being supported appropriately by 12-step methods. So when thinking, “is alcoholics anonymous useful,” the response depends upon what your meaning of “successful” is. But we need some REAL help for alcoholism and drug alcohol addiction!

“Exclusively 5% of those that make contact with AA for structure and support remain in this program just after 12 months,” reveals Solomon, mentioning an internal AA materials containing important info from five studies held from 1977 to 1989. The numbers establish:

* 81% of AA participants have left following one month

* 90% shall no longer be current following three months

* 93% getaway by 6 months

* 95% deserted the program following one full year

In truth, 45% of those who be present before Alcoholics Anonymous group meetings will never go back just after their initial meeting.

“93-97% of old fashioned medicine and alcoholic treatment programs are 12-step or AA-based, so anyone who has departed AA to check somewhere else for guidance, are virtually rejoining AA,” says Solomon.

She discovered herself trying to get assistance from AA while going to law school, going because of the recommended 90 group meetings in 90 days and commonly found that claiming she was an alcoholic addict over and over was obviously a awful affirmation bringing about only unfavorable effects. And I really needed assistance for alcoholism and drug addiction!

“They sought to convince me I’d been the sufferer associated with an incurable, progressive and fatal disease, that pursuing their routine was the typically option, knowning that I really should try to hand over my own, personal thinking for your Higher Power,” she says. “But I finished up being worse and worse, and my self-esteem kept getting lower and lower.”

She went by means of twelve many years of the vicious cycle of rehabs, sober livings, AA group meetings, and relapses. She has noticed supplemental solutions to AA, and now, at age 38, she finally feels free

Some surveys and studies make known the the vast majority of sensible technique to recover is in truth by way of self-cure, in place of a system. Although a Harvard reasearch project shows basically 20% of all alcoholics break the addiction permanently, of them that do get better as much as 77-82% did it by themselves without using a specialized method.

“One-size-fits-all remedy is not going to work,” Solomon affirms. “Treatments preferably should be as numerous as the everyday people in general looking for it. But then again, AA does work for some-maybe 5%. Certainly it is not for everyone, who wish to get help for alcoholism and drug addiction.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse appears to share a common opinion, stating “No single treatment program is right for everybody. Matching the treatment program to each individual’s needs is critical to success.”

“It is finally time to stop living in the dark ages of recovery, teach men or women about a bunch of their selections that are available. Maybe we’ll start creating a dent in the alcohol and drug abuse problem that millions are facing daily rather than continuing to extend it, to acquire some Proper help for alcoholism and drug addiction” claims Solomon.

Prominent U.S. addiction expert Dr. Marc Kern states, “I have long awaited this directory of addiction treatment alternatives. It represents what I believe to be the future of the field. It is a pioneering effort to organize this unique body of knowledge. A directory of this type was never available before.”

Dr. Frederick Rotgers, a different reputable drug addiction expert explains, “The problem is finding treatment providers who provide these alternative, evidence-based approaches. Melanie Solomon has taken a wonderful step toward making that process, of identifying alternatives to traditional treatments, easier.”

Alcoholics often need alcohol detox in order to rid their bodies of the substance. Unlike detox for other substances such as opioids, alcohol detox is a dangerous thing and can be fatal. The dependence a body develops on alcohol cannot be reversed quickly without side effects, so it is important that it is done under the watchfulness of a professional.

Alcohol detoxification

Many people that abuse alcohol do so on an irregular basis, and these people may not need detoxification. If a person can go a week in between binge drinking episodes, their body is probably not dependent on alcohol. But someone who drinks multiple drinks daily is very likely to have severe withdrawal symptoms, and should seek professional help.

When a person becomes dependent on alcohol, their brain shows an overall decrease in excitability. If that person would stop drinking, the brain receptors that were inhibited by alcohol are no longer affected, and the result is brain hyperexcitability, which is shown by tremors, seizures, anxiety, and irritability. Other symptoms of alcohol detox include hallucinations, shakes, and possible heart failure.

Medications for withdrawal symptoms

There are some medications that are commonly used to suppress alcohol withdrawal symptoms. These are benzodiazepines, such as Valium and Ativan, that are given to reduce unpleasant symptoms, and in some cases, save the life of the patient if delirium tremens occur. The thing physicians need to be careful about with benzodiazepines is that the alcoholic does not become addicted to the drugs.

There have been many hours and dollars put into developing new medications to help those struggling with alcoholism and alcohol detox. Baclofen has been shown to relieve severe withdrawal symptoms, and gabapentin and vigabatrin also have been used to improve withdrawal symptoms. While these drugs have been successfully used to treat other ailments, there is much research that will need to occur for these and any other medications before we know just how successful they will be to treat alcoholism.

Other treatments

Other medications can help a person stay sober, such as antabuse or naltrexone. Antabuse causes a strong, long lasting hangover immediately after consuming alcohol, which deters a person from drinking. Naltrexone is an antagonist for opioid receptors and it is used to decrease cravings for alcohol.

Continued treatment

Once a person has gotten through the alcohol detox safely and is sober, it is important for the person to go through treatment for alcohol abuse. This may involve daily therapy to give them ways to deal with stress and the temptation to use alcohol. It may mean learning life skills to find a good job and hobbies that keep them busy and away from alcohol. Many people have found help in Alcoholics Anonymous and their 12 step program which emphasizes the importance of taking care of yourself and finding your inner strength. Whatever method a person chooses, staying sober will take much encouragement and support.

For the past several months, the daily economic news has been grim. We hear about more job losses, foreclosures, home sales down, food prices soar, the stock market goes up and down. These are extraordinarily difficult times for everyone, and in some way everyone is affected by the situation. The never-ending stress taps into your energy and saps your strength; it tests your faith and leaves you confused. Families without the added stressors of alcohol or drugs will pull together; they will make some sacrifices as they grumble and complain, but in the end these families will more than likely survive the current economy.

What about the alcoholic? More importantly, what about the children living with an alcoholic? Research has confirmed that alcoholics lack coping skills. When faced with problems, the alcoholic will turn to the bottle. Most of us have seen the destructive dysfunction that results from alcohol or drug abuse. What happens when the alcoholic faces a job loss or pay cut, or loses the important health insurance? These situations exceed the “normal” stress of life and will most likely find the alcoholic turning to the bottle more often and in larger quantities.

The National Runaway Switchboard has reported that there has been an alarming increase in calls over the past year. The callers have been increasingly younger. These victims have reported abuse and neglect with alcohol a common denominator in many cases. With the increased stress from the economy, there has been an increase in alcohol and drug abuse. With increased alcohol and drug abuse, we have seen more violent outbursts. The sad result has been child abuse and neglect. Unfortunately, the weak economy has also reduced the funding for shelters and self-help organizations.

As we all know, eventually there will be more jobs and stocks will go up. We can all go eat lobster and see a movie. The economy will bounce back and up! In the interim, we need to ask ourselves a question: what about the children living in alcoholic homes during these tough times? Will their self-esteem ever be restored? What are the permanent lasting affects on these future leaders? We all need to be aware of the far reaching affects of a “bad” economy. Recent research indicated that children of alcoholics not only risk becoming an alcoholic but are more likely to abuse drugs.

We must pay attention to friends and family members that may need some extra help, and possibly intervention, during this tough time. Teachers, church leaders and adults that come in contact with children, stay watchful and pay attention to children that may be living in an alcoholic home. The turmoil in an alcoholic home can create guilt, shame and confusion for the children. These children try desperately to keep this ugly family secret, yet more than anything they need a trusted adult that will listen to them. Encouragement and support will begin their journey on the road to recovery.

We are all in this together, and we need to help each other. If we turn our backs on these children in need, the economy will recover but a huge segment of our society will not.
