The drugs don’t talk back, they don’t leave you, they don’t use you are some of the popular disbeliefs that drug users harbor, making it a dangerous addiction. This article deals with understanding the causes of drug abuse, symptoms and signs and some treatments that could be of use.

Causes of Drug Abuse:

• History of mental illness: drugs are sometimes used by people with mental disorders and in some cases even worsen already existing mental illness. They can even create new illnesses.
• Family History: it has not been completely ascertained that genetics and environment play an important role in drug abuse, but if you have a family history of addiction then you are at a higher risk of abusing drugs.
• Physical Pain: illegal drugs and pain medication, like heroin taken without any medical supervision can become addictive.
• Peer Pressure: one of the largest reasons is peer pressure, as if you are with people who are doing drugs then you are tempted to and many times pressured to try these drugs.

Drug users are a threat not only to themselves but to their loved ones as well. It isn’t a question as to why you should put an end to your drug abuse as there are thousands of medical reasons in which if listed, could go on forever. But that isn’t the only case seeing that the usage of drugs doesn’t only affect one physically but also mentally and emotionally as well.

Research shows that when a parent falls into the depths of becoming a drug addict, they risk the chances of producing a happy family. Those who get addicted would be more interested in obtaining their substances rather than their kids homework, the plumbing and what’s for dinner tomorrow night. So the first fallout would be the bond within the family. There would be a gap in communication, in affection and in concern within the family which would result in troubled children with messed up childhoods.

Drug abuse is a serious threat to life. Unfortunately, there has been a sharp growth in the number of drug users in last few years. Above all, many people do not realize severe consequences of drug addiction and thus, they end up spoiling their lives.

The first and foremost influence for drug abuse comes from the family. The environment of the family plays a crucial role in building a character of a child. If any of the parents take drugs or do not say anything to other family members who take drugs openly, can increase the chances for a child to follow a wrong path. Families with active criminal backgrounds need to look after their children.

Childhood is an innocent age and probably of children choosing a wrong path is quite high. Therefore, it becomes the duty of parents and family members to know each and everyone who interacts with your child. Gather information about friends and their families as well.
