But instead of curing patients, it made the disorder worse and therefore the drug was abandoned. The drug became known for its effects of generating hallucinations, altered state of awareness and distortion of perception, in the 1980’s, and its use has increased since.

Ambulances frequently park outside Raves (a large dance and party in a big space-much like old fashioned discotheques.) They aren’t on call to treat those who might faint from overdoing it on the dance floor. They are on standby to save the lives of any teens that might overdose on ecstasy. Ecstasy and Raves are almost synonymous. Where there are Raves there is ecstasy and where there is ecstasy there is potential harm or death.
While it might seem to make the dance floor more fun, for some, it is their Swan Dance.
An estimated 12.4 million Americans aged 12 or older tried ecstasy at least once in their lifetimes, representing 5% of the U.S. population in that age group, according to the 2007 National Survey on Drug Abuse and Health (NSDUH).
Ecstasy is a synthetic drug chemically similar to the methamphstimulant etamine and the hallucinogen mescaline. (The main component of ecstasy is methylenedioxymethamphetamine or MDMA.)

Ecstasy is the nickname used for methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA). Other names include XTC, X, Adam, Clarity, Lover’s Speed and some brand names include Mitsubishi, Triple Stack, Superman, and Roadrunner.
This drug produces energizing feelings like euphoria, empathy and a distortion in time perception. It is most often taken orally in pill format and exerts an effect on serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is responsible for communication between neurons in the brain and when MDMA is ingested, serotonin levels increase.
Ecstasy is highly addictive. Most people who take the drug will take it again after the first time. Therefore, it is wise to avoid environments like underground parties such as raves. Forty three percent of those who use ecstasy have reported a dependence on the drug as they are aware of the physical damage to the body but can’t stop taking the drug.

Ecstasy is one of the most dangerous drugs threatening the youth and adults today. It is also known as MDMA. It is one of the easiest illegal drugs to obtain. It comes as white, yellow or brown pills. It varies in its size, shape and design. It is generally taken in pill form and can also be injected.
Ecstasy is a mood enhancer. It lifts the spirits of the user who feels ‘high’ at the moment. It speeds up the nervous system leading to mood change. The feeling of ‘high’ can last from 6 hours to 24 hours but usually averages 3 to 4 hours. The user feels relaxed, happy, highly energetic and content. The preceding effects start within 20 minutes of taking the drug. There is increased confidence and well being.
Higher doses will not increase the good feeling. On the contrary, it would cause grievous harm and danger.

Drug addiction is becoming a huge problem these days and everyone concerned with the same are waking up and trying to work towards prevention of drug abuse.
The fact remains that it is very easy to get addicted to an illegal drug after one use itself. Hence the best way to prevent drug abuse is to say no the first time. However this can be done only if someone consumes drugs knowingly but when someone consumes a drug unknowingly then they might just desire for more without realizing the trouble they are getting into. Sometimes people start using illegal drugs out of peer pressure and fall into the trap.
Some of the most commonly used illegal drugs are Cocaine, Ecstasy, Morphine, Crack, Heroin and Marijuana. There are lots of rehabilitation centers which help such people fight drug addiction and resume their normal life. Since each drug has a different effect on the body, each addiction is treated in a different way. However, successful treatment is only possible when the addict agrees that he has a problem and wants to come out of it. The earlier the rehabilitation starts, the better because as a person gets more and more addicted to illegal drugs, it will take all the more longer for him to come out of it.
