Drug treatment programs are the most effective solution for those who have developed a dependency on drugs or alcohol. There are many different types of programs, ranging from establishments with all inclusive services, where patients spend some particular time on order to detox without any external influence, or less formal, such as the outpatient programs; in this case the drug treatment consists of an advocated series of meetings and emotional or even medical support, without isolating the patient at any case from his ordinary life and habits.
The main target of the drug treatment programs is to eliminate the dependency in alcohol or drugs and prevent further abuse. Some of them though offer a rather short term aid , aiming at breaking the usage immediately, and is applied in cases where the a life threatening danger is more than obvious or present, such as overdoses and illnesses. It is estimated that more than 25million people seek medical help just in Northern America so as to deal with their drug and alcohol problem. It is a really costly problem for every country and society not only because the government needs to pay huge amounts of money to help those people, but also because each country loses a serious number or potential professionals this way. Productivity is reduced, criminality is increased and the health care costs are skyrocketing. No matter how you see it, drug addiction is an onerous and burdensome situation.
Drug treatment programs are designed in such a way to combat the abuse of substances and alcohol. In most cases, the program includes some type of medication that helps the patient deal with the cravings for the substances and offer serious relief from the severe and intense withdrawal symptoms. What this medication does is to mimic temporarily the substance experience, so as to make the patient shift from the initial source of problem. Methadone is the most common used medication globally and it’s considered to have impressive results.

Except for medication treatment, patients undergo behavioral therapies as well, which can reduce the drug addiction. This kind of treatment is available for both inpatient and outpatient programs and usually focuses on identifying the original problem and trying to eliminate the source itself that made the patient start using drugs or become an alcoholic. Drug treatments try to find some coping strategies so as to handle effectively the drug avoidance. Peer sharing helps a lot in these occasions, as it helps people re-enter the society and feel that they belong to a group.

The cost of a drug treatment program depends on numerous factors. In general the residential or inpatient programs are more costly because they provide not only the necessary treatment but also full inclusive staying for the patient. Outpatient programs are definitely more cost effective but should be implemented mostly to those who can deal with some issues, like the withdrawal symptoms or emotional setbacks more effectively themselves. Inpatient programs aim at those who experience more severe emotional and physical problems and need more dramatic and drastic help.

Substance abuse and addiction is, unfortunately, a rather common phenomenon today. Most people have serious problem in dealing with several emotional or professional issues in their life, that is why in most cases they find an ‘easy’ solution to drugs and several different substances. This is something though that ruins their lives further and in many cases could be even fatal. Even if it isn’t, it leaves people with tremendous psychological problems, fears, isolated and distant even from their families and friends. Deaths and accidents related to drug addictions are considered to be a very common issue in daily news and the unfortunate event is that many people do not pay much attention any more, ignoring the fact that it could happen to them or their family as well.

Drug addiction is not a nasty habit; it’s a much more complicated and harsh situation and problem. Drug treatment programs exist today all over the world, trying to kick the drug addictions- although it’s a really difficult situation and really expensive for the governments as well. It is considered that 5% of the annual budget of a country is the minimum required for the conservation of a minimum number of drug treatment facilities and institutions. Effective drug treatment involves professional intervention, counseling and in some cases even administration of medication, so as to relief from symptoms of withdrawal. However, the patient’s determination and dedication to the cause is the only denominator that will decide the success or not of the process.

The vast majority of people who have problems with drug addiction and need drug treatment seek professional help by attending rehab programs. Choosing the right one though can be a complicated situation, mostly because the rehab programs are not suitable for everyone, since every patient has special needs and problems. An Effective and efficient drug treatment program should treat the addicted persons in a holistic manner, offering professional help, support and relief. It is really important for the patient to feel that he keeps his dignity and self esteem no matter what, because people treat them this way. It can help them focus and acknowledge the need to re-invent themselves and overcome their addiction.

In order to achieve a successful drug treatment program, institutions and centers need to provide a comprehensive and efficient treatment. Doctors and an experienced and well trained personnel should be available on a 24/7 basis, both for inpatient and outpatient programs. What can spell the difference in these situations is a strong support group, complemented with peer sharing. This helps the patients acquire emotional support and feel part of a team that understands and shares the same problem. It is really important for them to feel that others understand the rough conditions of their current life and support their efforts.

Prescription drugs can be hazardous to your health, and many are seriously addictive and can even kill.

However, a recent study in Florida, drug-related deaths in Florida reveals that far more people suddenly fall victim to lethal drug combinations – called polydrug abuse – that each drug, and can occur at the recreational users, as well as those trapped by addiction to prescription drugs.

It is common knowledge that addiction to prescription drugs has become a national nightmare.

However, the sudden death of prescription drugs is the subject of the news every day. The Florida study, an analysis of the 168,900 deaths in 2007 by the Medical Examiners Commission, Florida, found that deaths from prescription drugs are three times the rate of deaths caused by traditional illicit drugs such as heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine.

For example, heroin, methamphetamine and cocaine caused 989 deaths, while the legal painkillers like Vicodin and OxyContin caused 2328, the report said. And benzodiazepines, including antidepressants such as Valium and Xanax, led to 743 deaths.

Although the number of people who died with heroin in their bodies increased 14 percent to 110 deaths by the opioid analgesic oxycodone increased 36 percent by 1253 – more than 10 times longer than heroin.

Oxycodone is the heroine as an ingredient in the highly publicized and much battered painkiller OxyContin, is responsible for literally thousands of cases of prescription drug addiction, injury and death throughout the country. Obviously, heroin and oxycodone are interchangeable, and addicts are happy to get his hands on either drug.

However, digging a little further into the statistics, we begin to see how individual deaths poly dangers eclipse. The report shows in 664 deaths involved oxycodone in combination with other drugs, and only 41 himself.

Hydrocodone similar drugs such as Vicodin, Lortab, a lot of other brands and generically claimed 251 deaths in combination, and only 13 on its own. Propoxyphene, known as Darvon, has been linked to 76 deaths in combination with other substances, and only nine for himself.

Do not forget that the opioid analgesics, all on their own, are responsible for hundreds of times more cases of addiction to prescription drugs that the deaths, and each prescription drug addiction is a potential funeral waiting to happen.

Now come Psych drugs – antidepressants, antipsychotics, tranquilizers and beyond, so dangerous in its own way as lethal opioids.

Diazepam is widely prescribed as Valium, was implicated in 171 deaths when combined with other drugs, and only three by itself. And the alprazolam, known by the trade name Xanax, is linked to 556 deaths in combination with other substances, and only six deaths alone.

This in no way reduces the risk of addiction to prescription drugs caused by a single psychological drug on their own, either. Each in itself may cause dependency or addiction to prescription drugs, side effects, withdrawal to injuries and even death.

But 10 times more deaths from prescription drugs in combination with other drugs showed that polydrug abuse is a new and very serious problem.

For those who are still alive and seeking recovery, a combination of prescription drug addiction and polydrug abuse is a complex problem for medical detox drugs to deal with – most difficult to resolve in a single prescription drug . But thank God, when done correctly, the security solutions are possible.

In the final analysis, the Florida report clearly illustrates how quickly polydrug abuse and a life can end unexpectedly, before the victim has the opportunity to manage their dependence or addiction through a medical drug detox program.

Man has many habits among which some are really good and the others are really bad. It is your duty to identify those habits that are good from bad and those habits that can really bring about ill effects to the body condition. It is true that with the passage of the time most of these people are naturally falling sick and addicted to these habits. Finally it is very difficult to fight from this habit and slowly your health condition will deteriorate with time. This will definitely take away your appetite and you will have to completely live on these habits.

The common habits seen among man that really deteriorate the health condition are the following: smoking, drinking alcohol and taking drugs. When the things really worsen it will be shown in the form of various chronic diseases and the doctors will finally advise the people to stop the habit. These people might be moving with these habits for very long time and it is not possible for them to stop the habit for all of a sudden. You will be asked to undergo drug and alcohol treatment in order to slowly get out of the habits.

This can be easily achieved by undergoing a diet process which helps in the detoxification of the body. You should clearly understand the concept very well before stepping into the process as you might get experienced with certain health issues. It may severely affect your physical health and even your mental health equally as the process works out by removing all the alcohol and drug traces from the blood stream. You should not get backed off as you start experiencing these problems with regards to health and you should consider this as a positive effect that helps in correcting the health issues.

The detoxification diet process mainly works by completely prohibiting you from taking certain types of food items that contains fat and cheese along with sweets. Also you are not allowed to touch caffeine, nicotine, dugs and alcohol in order to get exact correct benefit out of the process. There are many detoxification centers that provide drug and alcohol treatment centers and many people are frequently visiting these places in order to save their kiths and kin from the hard core addictions.

Medical studies in the area of alcoholism have found alcoholism among the elderly to be a bigger problem than you might think. What’s really surprising about this trend is that in retrospect, medical investigation suggests that this phenomenon is nothing new. In fact, alcoholism among maturing baby boomers has been a silent threat to the health of these individuals for quite some time now.

Since awareness of this problem was first announced, action to solve the problem has been slow moving. It is estimated that today almost half the elderly individuals suffering from alcoholism remain undetected. When these individuals use their health insurance for check ups and treatment, health care professionals sometimes misdiagnose these patients by focusing on secondary ailments such as dementia, depression, insomnia or gastrointestinal problems. What these physicians fail to realize is that some of these ailments might be attributed to alcoholism.

The type of alcoholism that assails the elderly is called “late onset alcoholism”. This is a distinction from early onset alcoholism that usually begins earlier in life for most individuals. Late onset alcoholism, on the other hand, is developed by the elderly usually in response to situations unique to this age bracket.

For instance, death of a spouse, worrying about money, moving to a retirement home, or being away from family are some of the triggers that can initiate alcoholism and drug dependence among the elderly. Another trigger that may be unique to this demographic group is despair and depression from lifestyle challenges brought about by physical problems that come with old age.

Children should note that moving their parents to a retirement home may create the exact environment that fosters alcoholism. The depression that may set in from being placed in a home may lead the elderly to alcoholism, and the ironic truth is that a home provides many opportunities to drink and feed the alcoholic depressive mindset.

Women seem more prone toward late onset alcoholism than men. Also, men are more likely to admit they have a problem and seek help for this condition, while women tend to suffer silently in guilt and shame. Additionally, the inability of family members to recognize and come to grips with the fact that mom or dad is now an alcoholic impedes the individual suffering from alcoholism from seeking help and getting out of the condition.

Some of the elderly diagnosed with alcoholism may look to the government for treatment. Government issued medical insurance may pay for some treatment, but it will probably be insufficient to cover the entire costs. The correct treatment needed by the elderly suffering from alcoholism is pretty much a holistic approach that is used for other alcoholics of a younger demographic.

Alcoholism among the elderly is a dangerous problem for several reasons. As we age, the body’s physiology changes and our usual tolerance for alcohol is greatly decreased. This means that a standard drink may have double the effect on an elderly individual than on a younger one. This means that the harsh damaging effects of alcohol can be much stronger and therefore more lethal among the elderly. In fact, studies indicate that alcoholism causes more deaths among the elderly than cardiovascular disease.

Elderly people are, also, usually on heavy medications for many physiological conditions caused by aging. Alcohol creates an adverse effect when combined with most medications. Mixing alcohol with some medications can even lead to death. Also, you have the problem where some elderly may suffer from physical trauma from falls and accidents caused by excessive alcoholic consumption and alcoholism.

Detecting alcoholism among the elderly is not easy, but care givers can help identify some of the problem signs that may be indicative of the condition. For instance, frequent falls may be due to alcoholism more than any other reason. Signs of alcoholism must be looked for especially if the elderly being cared for has recently experienced a loss and is prone to bouts of depression and despair.

More attention must be given to identifying and helping the elderly suffering from alcoholism, as it’s been estimated that one out of six baby boomers will suffer from late onset alcoholism. As the population continues to age, the problem of alcoholism among the elderly will become a big social problem, and an even bigger economic problem as well.

Health for the addicted person is many times considered a liability. Whether your concern is health for an opiate addiction, alcohol addiction, methadone addiction or some other addiction, your health should be considered an asset in steps toward recovery. Your health should be your greatest asset. If you are a drug abuser or are addicted, then your asset is not as valuable.

By putting drugs in your body you are making toxic investments in to your most valuable asset, your health. Think for a moment about the health issues that may arise from an addiction problem. The list is long. You may develop any of the following as consequences of drug abuse or use: HIV, Hepatitis C, skin problems, liver problems, tooth decay, bone problems, venereal diseases and a myriad of other health issues.

There is no way to address health of an addict as a single solitary problem. Your problem may be different than the problem someone else may have. However, there are usually many similarities that may be resolved in the same manner even though they demonstrate different symptoms. The root cause may be the same. For instance most people gain weight when they enter methadone maintenance but there are some that lose weight. Same root cause i.e. methadone. In both situations metabolism is changed. In both situations the same product is the solution.

Your good health is an asset. Your health should be your greatest asset. Unfortunately, you have made toxic investments in your health. By using and /or abusing drugs you have put toxins in your body that have created negative issues in your life as well as in your health. You have put a lot of stress on your body and ultimately your health and well being. Many of the negative things you are experiencing can be changed. It is time for you to invest wisely in your health. It is time to make your health a valuable asset.

The investment in your health will not only increase your body function, hence increasing your asset, but will be profitable to you in your life style and maybe even in terms of money. It is an investment in your life. God gave us a body that will function properly if it is adequately and properly fed nutritionally.

There are some things you can do to help improve your asset. One of the easiest things is to increase your water intake. You need to eat whole foods as much as is possible. Limit the amount of processed foods you eat. You need to exercise. It does not have to elaborate just increase your body movement. Try to get and maintain a healthy weight. Decrease your sugar and sugar products (this includes things like bread, pastas and alcohol).

If you have an opiate addiction, heroin addiction, drug withdrawals, methadone withdrawals or you are in methadone treatment, opiate treatment or any drug treatment you owe it to yourself to improve your health which is main your asset.

As your body becomes an asset to you, you again become an asset to society. Invest today. Invest wisely. It’s your health. It’s your life. It is time for you to live your life to the fullest.

Start taking vitamins that contains nutritional ingredients formulated to mimic their activity as in their natural form. It contains anti-oxidants capable of bolstering immune function thus, reducing a person’s vulnerability to infectious disease. Nutridone was formulated to help restore body functions and to help normalize your metabolism.

Are you an alcoholic? When do you know you have become addicted?

Drinking alcohol excessively for a long period of time has a lot of risks to your health. The amount of alcohol you drink at a sitting and the extent of overall times you do this will determine the amount of damage done to your body.

If you are not a heavy drinker and only drink 1-2 drinks a sitting a couple of times a week, you would not be considered an alcoholic If your drinking becomes more and more each time and more often, and you continue this habit over a long period of time, you will eventually become addicted to alcohol. You increase your body tolerance each time you have a drink.

1. Your family life begins to crumble.
2. You become depressed.
3. Your anxiety will increasingly become worse.
4. You will be unable to sleep as well as you did before.
5. You start to lose your self esteem.
6. Your friends avoid you.
7. You have problems at work.

That’s just the beginning. You start to shut out the family and your friends. You shut out everything except the alcohol. The long term effects of alcohol become more serious as time goes by.

You could lose your job. You could lose your family. You have already lost your self respect and your self esteem.

More serious than anything else though, is your health status. Alcohol addiction causes many health problems. The most extreme and most serious problem is Cirrhosis of the liver. When this problem occurs, it is incurable.

Other organs affected include the pancreas, stomach, throat, esophagus, and the brain. Excessive alcohol intake has been linked to cancers of these organs. Women who consume alcohol excessively are at a higher risk of breast cancer. If these are not enough reasons for anyone to think twice about continuing to drink excessively, then you are probably too far gone. You should immediately contact a health official and get into a program as quickly as you can. At this point, you cannot do it on your own.

Why do some people choose to use drugs when they’re so bad for you? The causes of drug addiction are as varied as the amount of drugs that are available for use – both legally and illegally. There is no one cause for drug addiction just like there is no consistent profile of a drug user.

People who have a history of drug use or abuse in their families are at risk for drug addiction problems. It has been proven that children of alcoholics will exhibit addictive tendencies. Children of alcoholics or drug users generally have low self-esteem and see their parents escaping from problems using drugs. When they see this, their minds say that this is the way to act and they themselves become users.

There is also a biological basis for causing drug addiction. Drugs alter the brain’s chemicals and the way the brain functions. Drug addiction creates dependence in the brain by changing the brain’s reward functions – the part that reinforces certain behaviors.

Prescription drug addiction is caused by the person’s inability to function without the drug in their system. People become addicted to prescription drugs because they usually are taking them to overcome some type of pain. They begin to feel that if they are not taking their pills, the pain will return.

Some people are more prone to addiction than others. People who have low self-esteem, are often depressed, and who feel they have no control over their lives will often turn to drugs as a way to cope. They often feel they can’t please the people around them so they have to change themselves in order to fit in. The change is made easier by using drugs because the drugs transform them into someone and something that they are not.

Stress is often attributed as a cause of drug addiction. Life can be very stressful no matter who you are. Some of us are better able to cope with stress than others. Others still just look for an easy way to forget their stress – and that easy way is through drugs. Once the drug use starts, it’s often difficult to get away from it because the stresses will still be there once the high is gone, so the user feels he or she needs more drugs to cope. That type of cycle leads to addiction.

Finally, drugs are easily accessible. They are available in many places if you just ask around for them. Because of that easy access, it’s more likely that a person will begin using eventually becoming addicted.

The causes of drug addiction are wide and varied. The key to stopping drug addiction is to get rid of those causes before they become a problem.

For many years now it has become more apparent that nutrition played an important role in the life of a drug addict, alcoholic, methadone patient or other that might be chemically imbalanced. Today many are looking for answers to help solve the problem of nutritional deficiencies in alcoholics, drug addicts and methadone treatment patients. This search was pioneered by a group of doctors who developed a vitamin mineral supplement to help people with drug problems. Today more people are paying attention to this problem with their clients whom are in treatment. In many cases it is being added to their treatment plans. The big problem then is what course of action needs to be taken to positively affect a change in their client’s health and nutrition.

Many times the course of action to address the problem is to tell the person to start taking a “good” vitamin. Maybe they tell them to go to a health food store and try some specific product that might give them some relief. This can be expensive road to follow, trying to find the right vitamin supplement for each case. Vitamin B in various forms is most often recommended for low energy but that is just one issue. Then people are told another product to help other issues (Something for this and something else for that.). The result is that there is no real change because the treatment is not complete. The problems persist and sometimes even worsen. The person gives up and becomes skeptic towards the benefit of health and nutritional supplements.

The other problem is that because of their problem they expect and want instantaneous gratification. They don’t realize that the problem developed over a period of time usually a long time. Most vitamin and mineral supplements are developed for “normal” people (whatever that is). They may not even work for those people, much less work for people with specific problems such as drug and alcohol problems and people under going methadone treatment or maintenance. Sometimes in methadone treatment clients experience the methadone side effects of extreme constipation, sugar craving, low energy and heavy sweating. The other problem is people with drug and alcohol problems are used to “feeling” something. This is not generally the case with most of the products they take. If they do feel the product it usually a short lived high, burst of energy or something of that nature. Then comes the let down.

Now there are Vitamin supplements developed for addicts and those inn various treatments. The active principles used in developing this product get the nutrient to the cellular level. If the nutrient never reaches the cellular level then the body doesn’t benefit from the nutrient. The two active principles are chelation and an integrated antioxidant system. Chelated products are easily absorbed in the body while retaining their nutritional properties as you would expect from their natural sources. The body needs antioxidants to inactivate or minimize the effects free radicals or Oxidants. Although beta carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E are commonly taken as antioxidants, they may be harmful if taken inappropriately. However when processed corectly they will be in the form that is used by the body to do what antioxidants are supposed to do in the body.

When a product is designed properly and for a specific purpose it has a much better chance of doing what it supposed do. If given the appropriate nutrients in a form the body needs and can use, the body will then do what it is supposed to do, be healthy. Then you will function like you were designed to.

Alcohol is capable of causing birth defects. Causing a child to suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome is really nothing short of child abuse and it lasts for life.
Fetal Alcohol syndrom is an invisible avalanche crashing down and overwhelming public resources. Patients with fetal alcohol syndrome typically have multiple handicaps and require special medical, educational, familial and community assistance. A baby born with FAS may be seriously handicapped and require a lifetime of special care. In the United States, about 1,200 children are born each year with fetal alcohol syndrome. It is the leading cause of mental retardation in this country. When a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy, she risks giving birth to a child who will pay the price- in mental and physical deficiencies- for his or her entire life. It is a pattern of mental and physical defects which develops in some unborn babies when the mother drinks too much alcohol during pregnancy. People with FAS might have problems with learning, memory, attention span, communication, vision, hearing, or a combination of these. These problems often lead to difficulties in school and problems getting along with others.
Fetal alcohol syndrome includes a characteristic group of defects including small head and brain, facial abnormalities, and defects of other organs. Babies born with FAS tend to weigh less and be shorter than normal. This capability classifies it medically as a teratogen. Alcohol is now recognized as the leading teratogen to which the fetus is likely to be exposed. The syndrome is found in all racial and socio-economic groups. If you suspect that your child has FAS, talk to your doctor as soon as possible. Early diagnosis reduces the risk of problems in life associated with FAS, including troubles at school, with substance abuse and with the law. There is no cure for FAS; however, with early identification and diagnosis, children with FAS can receive services that can help increase their potential.
Causes of Fetal alcohol syndrome
The common causes of Fetal alcohol syndrome include the following:
Use of alcohol during the pregnancy.
Many drugs.
Heart defects such as ventricular septal defect or atrial septal defect.
Women older than 30 years and/or those with a long history of alcohol consumption.
Symptoms of of Fetal alcohol syndrome
Some sign and symptoms related to of Fetal alcohol syndrome are as follows:
Poor socialization skills, such as difficulty building and maintaining friendships and relating to groups.
Poor coordination/fine motor skills.
Small head circumference.
Failure to thrive.
Growth, motor, and mental retardation.
Mental retardation and delayed development.
Slow physical growth before and after birth.
Incomplete development of genitalia.
Facial abnormalities, skeletal limb abnormalities, tremors (in the newborn infant), agitation and crying (in the newborn infant).
Treatment of Fetal alcohol syndrome
Here is list of the methods for treating Fetal alcohol syndrome:
Babies and children with alcohol-related damage often need developmental follow-up and, possibly, long-term treatment and care.
Pregnant alcoholic women should be involved in alcohol abuse rehabilitation programs and monitored closely throughout pregnancy.
If you’re an alcoholic, don’t get pregnant until you get help. Use birth control methods until you’re able to control your drinking.
Heart abnormalities may require surgery.
A child with FAS may need help with social skills and memory.
