Marijuana is known as the most commonly used drug in all of America. While many feel the use of marijuana is not dangerous, what they do not realize are the numerous effects it has on the body with its long term use and abuse.

To understand marijuana’s effects is to first understand what types of chemicals are in the drug. The largest most mind altering drug within marijuana is THC. THC is a strong chemical that rapidly passes from the smoker’s lungs into their bloodstream, from which is then transferred to the brain and organs.

Scientists have dug even deeper to see how THC affects the brain and body. What they have discovered is that the brain has cannabinoid receptors which are triggered when THC enters the bloodstream. Some people have more cannabinoid receptors than others. What do these cannabinoid receptors do? Because a large majority of these receptors are located in the pleasure center of the brain as well as the part of the brain important for memory, thinking, concentrating, sensory and coordination, THC thus affects these parts of a person’s life. This means that an abusive smoker can begin losing their memory, have distorted perception or difficulty thinking. The biggest threat is on one’s memory as scientists have discovered it can impact how one can learn or what they can remember for weeks at a time. Continue reading ‘The Effects of Marijuana Abuse’ »

Marijuana – or Mary-J, as it is warm-heartedly called by those who are addicted to the substance, is not that different from tobacco when you come to think of it. They are both made from dried leaves. They can also be smoked, chewed and sometimes even sniffed by those who take them. Did I mention that they are also both highly addictive and destructive to the brain cells? Well, they are.

Whereas tobacco has a soothing effect on those who consume it, Mary-J is much more potent because of its hallucinogenic and intoxicating effects on those who try and get hooked. I have seen cigarette smokers’ reform and migrate to marijuana smoking because it makes them ‘high’.

Having been used for several centuries both as an intoxicant and a medication, the control of the substance is a bit difficult because of various beliefs concerning it. While some countries consider it an illegal substance, others think it really isn’t so harmful because it also helps medicinally to improve appetite, prevent the severe weight loss associated with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

These abilities get affected due to intoxication of substances like drugs and alcohol, which are likely to result in road accidents. This is comparatively high in case of drugs like marijuana. The primary impact of marijuana abuse is diminished psychomotor performance.

Does it impact?

There were many tests conducted on the impact of marijuana on driving of the abused. The results of almost all these tests reported that marijuana abuse has ample potential to diminish the psychomotor abilities as well as result in damage of other crucial capabilities like distorting perceptions, impairing judgment, decreasing concentration, etc. Thus, the abused gets impaired of his natural ability in performing multiple and interactive tasks and becomes inefficient to accomplish complex tasks like driving.

I would hazard a guess that one of the main problems most people face when they try to stop smoking weed is the probability of getting sucked backed in – or a relapse. How easy is it to just have one quick puff? Surely, it can’t do any harm, can it? Unfortunately, many marijuana smokers have had the habit for years, and therefore being drawn back into weed addiction is extremely hard to ignore.

This is especially true if you have not prepared yourself for the tough journey ahead. So, if you really want to know how to stop smoking weed for good, and if you don’t want to get drawn back into your old marijuana habits, just follow these three simply, but highly effective tips:-

1) Stay as far away as you can from weed – I realize that this is an extremely obvious statement, but it still amazes me how many ex-marijuana smokers fail to follow this simple advice. Giving up weed is not simply about no longer buying it, but also avoiding the places where you know it is easily accessible to you. You should definitely not visit the places you used to smoke it, as it makes perfect sense that if you have nothing to smoke you are more likely to have a far better chance of quitting.
