What is Pain Medicine?

Pain medicine, in addition to called managing pain/pain management, is a branch of medication with the purpose of pain reduction. This type of medication covers a large range of circumstances including neuropathic pain, pain caused by certain types of cancer, postoperative pain and more.

Who can become addicted to Pain Medication?

Men and Women of all ages, particularly adolescents and more with the elderly subsequently are becoming addicted. Not only the elderly are turning to pain medication to battle the aches and pains of aging, our adolescent are experimenting through opiate-based drugs, causing the number of children and seniors in quest of treatment for addiction are on a major rise.

What are Opiates?

Opiates are a type of drug that includes: Morphine, Codeine, Vicodin, Percodan, and more then ever OxyContin, just to name a few. Current study has confirmed that opiate drugs, such as morphine and heroin, leave users extra weak to nervousness, which can generate a malicious sequence with pressure which triggers further drug use. Morphine is a concern to the similar opportunity for mistreatment as the others. It is less frequently prescribed for usual outpatient use.

The drug choice for abuse

OxyContin is a brand name for oxycodone, a Schedule II drug. OxyContin Abuse is increasing by the thousands. Frequently abused narcotic pain medications consist of those containing synthetic narcotics such as hydrocodone, Lortab, Vicodin, oxycodone, Lorcet, Percodan, Percocet, as well as Demerol, Dilaudid, codeine, methadone and Darvon-containing compounds. One Famous death include actor Heath Ledger, who died from a fatal mixture of diazepam, hydrocodone and oxycodone. Opioid painkillers are those containing hydrocodone bases.

Receipt and how to stop this abuse by our young

The elderly normally obtain these drugs through a medical professional. They occasionally consume suggested amounts which lead to addiction and ultimately a fatal overdose. However, our young people are asking for them through their parents, claiming to be in pain, when they’re not. If their parents refuse to supply it, they obtain it through theft from parents, family members and neighbors. They often request family and/or friend’s prescription through pharmacies and ultimately, pharmacies hand it over, unaware these people are addicts. It’s necessary that this Drug Abuse by our children stop. If we, as caring parents don’t bug into our teenagers lives, we aren’t aware of this abuse and assist them in recovery. If they continue this abuse, tragically, we will eventually put our children in the ground upon death caused by overdose. Let’s stop prescription drug abuse by banding together as one nation.

Opiate addiction is an insidious problem that has plagued society for centuries, but perhaps never more so than today. A two-edged sword, opiates can heal or destroy.

An opiate is any drug derived from the opium poppy plant. The main opiates are morphine, heroin, and codeine.

Thebaine and papaverine are also opiates. More commonly we see opiates in their synthetic forms: oxycodone (OxyContin, Percodan), hydrocodone (Vicodin), and hydromorphone (Dilaudid). Darvon, Demerol, and Methadone are other synthetic opiates. The majority of these drugs are used medically for pain management.

Opiates are particularly effective in suppressing pain and reducing anxiety. In sufficiently high doses, they can produce a euphoric state. For this reason, they are often used as recreational drugs. Psychological and physical dependence leading to addiction is common in frequent opiate users. The body quickly adjusts to the use of opiates such that increasingly larger doses are needed to produce the same euphoric effect. Overdosing, sometimes resulting in fatal respiratory failure, occurs when addicts take more than their body can handle.

Most opiates can be swallowed, snorted, smoked, or injected. Intravenous injection is the preferred method of longtime addicts as this method produces the quickest, most intense high. It is also a method accompanied by increased risk of infectious disease.

Physically, the effects of opiates include dry mouth; muscle spasticity; slow, shallow or labored breathing; pupil dilation; stomach and intestinal spasms; constipation; low blood pressure; and diminished mental capacity, drowsiness, and disorientation. A common behavior of the opiate addict is the nodding in and out of consciousness.

Opiate addicts are emotionally detached. Thus, dependents of addicts are often neglected and sometimes abused.

Addicts have a difficult time reporting regularly to jobs and even keeping them. Since they cannot function without the drug, looking for it, paying for it, using it, and enjoying its effects become first and foremost in their priority.

Other needs are a poor second. Since funds are usually not commensurate to the need and desire, stealing and other criminal behavior are often parts of the addict’s lifestyle.

Withdrawal from addiction to opiates can include hot and cold flashes, goose bumps, extreme restlessness, anxiety, muscle spasms, tremors, muscle and bone ache, insomnia, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Fortunately, there are many opiate dependency treatment programs available. Before anything else, detoxification is needed. In the opiate addiction detox center, a longtime user can begin the process of eliminating the toxins from one’s body in a regulated environment where medical practitioners are available to monitor any adverse effects of withdrawal.

Some opiate addiction rehab centers administer medications such as methadone or buprenorphine to ease the pain of withdrawal. After the physical cleansing, the tough work of self-transformation begins. Opiate addiction rehabs offer counseling and behavior modification strategies and techniques to enable the recovering patient to sustain a drug-free lifestyle long after he’s left the opiate addiction rehab center.

Through counseling sessions, the patient discovers the emotional and environmental factors that trigger his cravings, and he learns how to avoid these or control them. Realizing that the treatment for opiate dependency is far from over, even when the rehabilitated opiate addict returns to society, opiate addiction treatment centers connect him to support groups and family outreach programs to assist him and his family in rebuilding their lives.

Finding the best opiate addiction detox center is a necessity in today’s world. Realizing the fact the author of this article has analyzed the addiction to opiates. He knows how to find the best rehab centers. He has helped many people to find the best programs available out there.

Wall Street Journal article says “Top Pain Scientist Fabricated Data in Studies, Hospital Says”

“The anesthesiologist allegedly faked data in 21 studies on the use of various painkillers, including Vioxx”.
Pain is the most common symptom for which older adults, those aged 65 and older, visit their doctor. The older adult population is rapidly increasing as the baby boomers age.
Pain is often considered a silent epidemic by experts in the United States. An estimated 50 million Americans endure chronic pain caused by a disease, disorder or accident. An additional 25 million people suffer acute pain resulting from surgery or accidents.
Loss of productivity due to pain continues to be a burden on companies and families. In a study done in 2000 it was reported that 36 million Americans missed work in the previous year due to pain and that 83 million indicated that pain affected their participation in various activities.1
From these statistics it is clear that pain and its treatment is a major problem confronting our modern culture. A survey done by the American Pain Society2 in 1999 revealed that more than 40% of people suffering moderate to severe pain were unable to find adequate pain relief.
Inadequate pain relief is one of the top reasons people experience a reduced quality of life.Increasing anxiety is yet another reason for diminishing quality of life. The medications for both of these often interrelated issues, are usually toxic leading to many complications and side-effects, even death. Individuals on blood thinners can’t even take most medications for physical pain and are left with little or no option for their pain relief.
Thought Field Therapy (TFT) is a little-known, but highly effective, drug-free and non-invasive way to reduce or eliminate even chronic pain without the risk of medications. TFT was discovered and developed by California clinical psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan. It works with nature’s healing system combining the acupressure meridian system and modern psychology.
With the known risks of painkillers, the fraud appearing regularly in the studies of these painkillers, suggesting unknown risks, we need to help pain sufferers learn and use safer methods for managing pain.
3Researchers at Oxford University in the United Kingdom have found that the anxiety caused by the anticipation or experience of pain makes the perceived level of pain much worse. This often leads to the addition of anxiety medications, which have their own set of risks and side-effects. TFT effectively reduces or eliminates anticipatory anxiety in addition to reducing the pain.
Length of relief from pain, per occurrence, is also important to the sufferer. In a 4study, TFT provided longer relief than that experienced from pain medications. (a free copy of this study is available on www.TFTRX.com).
5Statistically significant results were obtained with all problems and symptoms treated with TFT in a study at Kaiser Behavioral Health Services. These problems included anxiety, depression, alcohol abuse, anger, anxiety due to medical condition, bereavement, and chronic pain along with others.
“When I observe a number of suffering patients who did not respond to our usual treatment modalities, suddenly get better after TFT treatments are given, I don’t need a double-blind controlled study to tell me the value of Callahan Techniques® TFT.”
James McKoy, MD, Chief, Pain Clinic, Chief, Rheumatology Service, Assistant Chief, Neuroscience Department
Pain relief can be one of the most important means for improving the quality of life for thousands of people.Individuals suffering from chronic diseases like arthritis, cancer, heart disease or fybromyalgia can use TFT in conjuction with their medications to reduce the risk of extended medication use and consequently enhance their effect.
It only makes sense to try a natural, risk-free process to relieve and manage pain first, before spending any sum of money for medications with side-effects and other risks.
