Illegal drugs are mostly addictive which can be in form as chemicals, pills, herbs etc. Such drugs make people so addictive that they consume these even if they feel sick. These are dangerous of course, having various side effects affecting ones mental, physical and psychological aspects. This is the reason most of the governments have ruled out laws regulating their usage not banning totally as these are sometimes used for medical purposes too. Usage of illicit drugs is not confined to any one region or country but is seen world widely.

Trading illegal drugs is a criminal offense in many countries. Legal amount of these drugs are often distributed carefully and are taxed too heavily. For e.g. cigarettes are legal drugs but are expensive and are also cautioned to be consumed by anyone below a certain age. A similar drug is alcohol. Apart from these there are various other illegal drugs as caffeine, heroine, morphine, temazepam, opium, methamphetamine etc. And if the person is caught with any of these drugs he may be punished as per the specific country rules.

There are various legal usages of most of the illegal drugs for which total ban cannot be made. These are:

- Cocaine: It is used as an anesthetic legally.
- Heroine: It is used legally as an analgesic – painkiller.
- Methamphetamine: It is used to treat Narcolepsy.
- Crack: Used as Cocaine.

Ecstasy is one of the most dangerous drugs threatening the youth and adults today. It is also known as MDMA. It is one of the easiest illegal drugs to obtain. It comes as white, yellow or brown pills. It varies in its size, shape and design. It is generally taken in pill form and can also be injected.

Ecstasy is a mood enhancer. It lifts the spirits of the user who feels ‘high’ at the moment. It speeds up the nervous system leading to mood change. The feeling of ‘high’ can last from 6 hours to 24 hours but usually averages 3 to 4 hours. The user feels relaxed, happy, highly energetic and content. The preceding effects start within 20 minutes of taking the drug. There is increased confidence and well being.

Higher doses will not increase the good feeling. On the contrary, it would cause grievous harm and danger.

Today, the pharmaceutical industry is a multi-billion industry designed to help you cure whatever ails you. When this works, miracles happen and people are relieved of pain and cure of disease. But what happens when the very pills they take from their doctor are the cause of their problems?

Prescription pill addiction is quickly becoming one a major issue. As these companies make stronger medications, it seems they also make harder to quit addictions. Pills like Oxycodone are stronger and more addictive than past drugs like Valium and codeine-based pain killers. Even Viagra, a drug designed to deal with impotency, has high value on the black market.

In fact, prescription pills make up most of the list of most abused substances in the world right behind alcohol, cocaine, marijuana and heroin. Xanax, Vicodin, Oxycodone, Klonopin, and Darvocet are in the top ten.

Some people think that prescription drugs are safer and less addictive than street drugs. But prescription drugs are only safe for the individuals who actually have prescriptions for them.

I recently interviewed an administrator in an addiction treatment center and found out that when clients come to them for help with a prescription drug addiction or abuse problem, they’re not just taking one or two drugs; it’s closer to 15.

The term ‘drug of choice’ has been around for a long time. But when it comes to the way young people are taking prescription drugs, the term has become obsolete. They take whatever’s going.

They often get them from parents’ and friends’ medicine cabinets, take the pills themselves, offer them to friends, and dump them in bowls at parties where anyone can take whatever strikes their fancy.
